We are watching a plume of water set up in the Pacific. This is a very classic El Niño atmospheric river of moisture. It appears that it will move into Northern California and clip northern Sonoma County producing as much as 5" of rain in the coastal hills with 2-4 inches in our valleys. There is potential for heavy runoff creating ponding on roads and urban and small stream flooding.

El Nino forecast update: Strong El Nino continues, but expected to weaken in coming months. Chance of La Nina developing is possible during the fall, however, considerable uncertainty remains. The current El Niño has already produced significant global impacts and is predicted to bring above-normal precipitation across the southern tier of the United States, and below-normal precipitation over the northern tier, with above-average temperatures favored in the North and West U.S., and below-average temperatures favored in the southern Plains and along the Gulf Coast through April.
