Bystanders Intervene To Restrain Stabbing Suspect

Around 11:48 PM, Santa Rosa Police received a 9-1-1 call reporting a stabbing on Mendocino Avenue.

Witnesses stated that 37-year-old Robert Dean of New Mexico attacked a victim from behind with a pocketknife. Several courageous bystanders intervened, restraining Dean and disarming him before officers arrived. Police and Santa Rosa Junior College Police quickly detained Dean. The victim was transported to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The Santa Rosa Police Department praised the bystanders’ bravery but also cautioned against the dangers of intervening in violent situations.
