Downtown Santa Rosa’s central square filled with thousands Tuesday night for El Grito Fest, celebrating Mexican Independence Day.
The debut event featured music, food, and the traditional grito, a battle cry from Mexico’s 19th century fight against Spain.
Organizers say about four-thousand people attended, turning the night into both a cultural celebration and a show of solidarity amid rising deportation fears.
