Wastewater Data Signals Rotavirus Surge in Northern California

Health officials are reporting a spike in rotavirus levels across Northern California wastewater.

High concentrations have been detected in Marin, Redwood City, San Jose, and Santa Cruz, while Sacramento and San Francisco show moderate levels.

The virus is highly contagious and poses the greatest risk to infants and young children. It typically causes severe diarrhea and vomiting, which can lead to its most common complication: dangerous dehydration.
