A multi-day storm system is sweeping into Northern California, bringing a much-needed break from record-breaking March heat.
The Press Democrat reports a slow-moving “cut-off” low will trigger spotty showers today, followed by widespread, steady rainfall and potential thunderstorms starting early Friday morning. By Saturday, a second system from the Gulf of Alaska will merge with the first, increasing wind gusts to 30 mph and creating conditions for rotating storms.
Total rainfall could reach 1.5 inches in the valleys and up to 3 inches in the mountains, with over two feet of fresh snow expected in the High Sierra. While localized urban flooding is possible, the moisture will drastically drop fire danger levels from record highs to well below normal.
Drier conditions are expected to return late Sunday, ushering in a more typical spring pattern by early next week.
