Construction officially begins Saturday on a $37 million bridge connecting Santa Rosa’s east and west sides over Highway 101.
The Press Democrat reports the thousand-foot-long overcrossing will link the Coddingtown area to Santa Rosa Junior College, providing a safe corridor for students and commuters. Project leaders say the bridge will finally remove a major freeway barrier that has separated neighborhoods and transit hubs for decades.
While the project faced a nearly 30% cost increase, city officials prioritized funding to avoid further delays and meet grant deadlines.
Completion is expected by summer 2027, creating what advocates call a “beautiful landmark” for the city’s bicycle and pedestrian network.
