Sonoma County Secures Grant To Boost Disaster Financial Recovery

The Sonoma County Department of Emergency Management has been awarded a $150,000 national grant to help residents navigate the financial fallout of future disasters.

Selected by the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund, Sonoma is one of only three counties nationwide chosen for this year’s initiative. The program aims to integrate financial counseling directly into emergency planning, helping families manage unexpected expenses and navigate complex federal loan applications after a crisis.

Supervisor Rebecca Hermosillo noted that a household’s financial stability before a disaster is a key factor in how quickly they can recover. Officials say the new funding will help ensure that residents are not just physically safe during an emergency, but financially resilient in the aftermath.

The grant provides both immediate funding and long-term technical support to build this new recovery infrastructure.
