Senior Baseball League Helps Police Catch Fleeing Suspect

A group of senior baseball players stepped up to help Healdsburg police nab a fleeing suspect Wednesday morning.

Per the Press Democrat, members of a baseball league for men aged 72 and older assisted officers in detaining a driver who had just led police on a high-speed car chase through several city blocks.

The pursuit began after police tried to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle on Powell Avenue, where an adult man and a 14-year-old girl appeared to be under the influence. When an officer approached the car near University Street, the driver sped away before eventually being cornered.

Following the dramatic arrest, investigators booked the man on suspicion of statutory rape and sexual abuse of a minor.
