A Southern California man has been arrested in Rohnert Park after allegedly acting as a courier for an organized financial scam targeting the elderly.
The Press Democrat reports public safety officers stepped in on Monday, July 6th, after learning a local woman in her 70s was actively being targeted by fraudsters.
Detectives staked out the victim’s apartment complex and arrested the suspect immediately after witnessing him collect a large sum of cash. Authorities say the victim had been targeted multiple times over the past year, falsely believing her money was going into a legitimate investment account.
The suspect now faces charges of grand theft and elder abuse, prompting police to urge residents to talk to elderly family members about the dangers of courier-based scams.
