The Child Parent Institute in southwest Santa Rosa is accusing PG&E of putting a $5 million state-funded disaster project at risk.
According to the Press Democrat, the nonprofit was awarded a grant to build solar-powered cooling centers for the Roseland and Moorland communities, but PG&E has repeatedly rejected their request to merge the campus onto a single electric meter.
CPI officials say forced two-meter setup inflates construction costs, slashes utility savings, and threatens strict state grant deadlines. PG&E maintains that its hands are tied by state tariff rules and claims the dispute could have been avoided with earlier coordination.
With funding on the line, Sonoma County Supervisor Chris Coursey is stepping in, urging the utility to sit down with the nonprofit and find a workaround before time runs out.
