A Santa Rosa police officer opened fire on a man Thursday morning following a tense confrontation near 10th and Washington streets.
The incident occurred just after 11:00 AM while a Press Democrat photojournalist was present on a ride-along. According to reports, the officer approached the man for a welfare check when he allegedly became aggressive and charged at her.
Video from the scene shows the officer backing away and deploying a stun gun before eventually firing her service weapon. The man, who appeared to be experiencing homelessness, was transported for medical care; however, his current condition has not been released.
The Santa Rosa Police Department is expected to provide further updates as the investigation into the shooting continues.
