Private Tape Sparks Campaign Fire In North Bay Congressional Race

The gloves are off in the North Bay’s Congressional race, as Democratic challenger Eric Jones is demanding a public apology from longtime incumbent Representative Mike Thompson.

The Press Democrat reports Jones claims a recent Thompson attack ad relies on an illegal recording of a private campaign meet-and-greet held at a home in Davis. His legal team has slapped the Thompson campaign with a cease-and-desist letter, warning of potential civil and criminal complaints under California’s two-party consent laws.

Thompson’s campaign manager fired back, dismissing the legal threats as “intimidation” and refusing to back down.

This latest clash intensifies an already deeply personal primary race in California’s 4th District, which includes parts of Sonoma County.
