SUMMARY:Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue
DESCRIPTION:Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue\nwith special guest Hannah Mayree\nFri\, July 18\, 2025 – Tickets: $42–$112\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue is Giddens’ much anticipated return to her North Carolina roots and the old time music tradition that launched her career. Two-time GRAMMY\, MacArthur “Genius”\, and Pulitzer Prize winner Giddens has pulled together a remarkable band that represents an incredible array of talent and American musical traditions as a way to celebrate her new album What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow\, a fiddle-and-banjo record made with her old Carolina Chocolate Drop collaborator Justin Robinson. Joining Giddens and Robinson on stage will be celebrated multi-instrumentalist Dirk Powell\, longtime bassist Jason Sypher\, guitarist Amelia Powell\, and bones player and rapper Demeanor. What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow features a mix of North Carolinian instrumentals and traditional songs\, many learned from her late mentor\, the legendary North Carolina Piedmont musician Joe Thompson. Thompson was one of the last musicians of his era and his community to carry on the southern Black string band tradition. Rhiannon Giddens & The Old-Time Revue pay homage to that legacy and shepherd it into a new era. \n“This music doubles down on place\, time\, realness\, and old-fashioned front porch music.” she says. “It’s a reminder that another way exists\, with music made for your community’s enjoyment and for dancing–not solely for commercial purposes. This multi-generational band of chosen and blood family will draw on deep traditions from old-time to cajun to country to blues\, all to bring audiences back home in place\, in culture and in community with music you’ll feel in your bones.” Giddens’ new album\, What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow\, a collaboration with Justin Robinson\, is out April 2025 on Nonesuch Records. \n“A master folklorist\, banjo virtuoso and vocal powerhouse” – NPR\n“One of Americana music’s most vital voices.” – Rolling Stone\n“Few artists are so fearless and so ravenous in their exploration.” – Pitchfork\n“One of the most important musical minds currently walking the planet.” – American Songwriter \n\nHannah Mayree (they/them) is a  creative facilitator and musician who’s work and art lends itself as a tool for redesigning and reconnecting to our roots as humans on this planet. A banjoist\, multi-instrumentalist\, producer and vocalist\, Hannah shares original and traditional banjo compositions as well as harmonies through acoustic live vocal looping and interactive community song. \nHannah will be joined by the acclaimed singer Tonya Abernathy on vocals\, Malayalam-American fiddler Miriam Hacksaw and the Bay Area’s own African and diasporic drummer and song carrier Kele Nitoto. \nHannah founded and creatively directs the Black Banjo Reclamation Project which is currently creating musical\, cultural and land-based opportunities for Black\, Afro-Diasporic communities around the world to work with the banjo as a tool for reclaiming ancestral wisdom and creating Afro-futures through folks arts.

SUMMARY:Tower of Power
DESCRIPTION:Tower of Power\n\nFri\, August 8\, 2025 – Tickets: $41-$111\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor 57 years\, Tower of Power has delivered the best in funk and soul music. “We were a Soul band called The Motowns\,” recalls Emilio Castillo. “Rocco was the bass player\, I was there\, and my brother was the drummer. I met ‘Doc’ Kupka back in 1968\, and gave him an audition. He came in the band\, and we eventually changed our name to the Tower of Power.” The reason for the band name change was that they had a specific goal in mind. \nEast Bay Grease defined their sound and landed them with Warner Brothers. Bump City\, their 1972 debut for the label\, was a hit on both the Billboard 200 and the R&B Albums chart\, and netted them the hits “You’re Still A Young Man” and “Down to The Nightclub.” The 70s were a boom period with radio classics like “So Very Hard to Go” and “What Is Hip?\,” and the band continued to tour and record over the years. Castillo says their love of the stage is the same today as it was back in 1968. \n50 years later\, in 2018\, they returned to Oakland to celebrate their landmark 50th anniversary. Tower’s window-rattling grooves and raucous party spirit has been a balm for the soul throughout their half-century existence\, but the release of 50 Years of Funk & Soul: Live at the Fox Theater couldn’t have arrived at a better time. \nThe band has long since surpassed Castillo’s modest aspirations\, traveling the world\, enjoying hit singles on their own and backing legendary artists including Otis Redding\, Elton John\, Santana\, the Grateful Dead\, John Lee Hooker\, Aerosmith\, Bonnie Raitt\, and countless others. In the process they’ve defined an “Oakland soul” sound as instantly recognizable as those from Castillo’s hometown\, Detroit\, as well as inspirations like Memphis and Philadelphia. \nThe future of Tower of Power is set out to be vigorous and dynamic\, and will prove to be just that for fans around the world starved for the band’s groove just the way Tower of Power likes it! \nGates open at 5:30 p.m.

SUMMARY:Family Fun: Monster Makers with Clay
DESCRIPTION:Family Fun: Monster Makers with Clay\n$40.00\nSunday\, August 10\, 2025; 10:30am – 1 pm \n$35 + $5 (Recycled Clay) \nLocated in the Painting/Drawing Studio at SebArts \nA guided handbuilding experience. Transform clay into a one-of-a-kind little friend\, using your imagination\, and your sense of humor! \nThis class is suitable for ages 6 to adult and tailored to a family-friendly environment. For children under the age of 10\, we recommend having an older sibling or adult register to join us and make a monster\, too! \nAbout the Instructor: From her earliest memories\, Jenny Lauck has always loved making little odd ball friends\, using a variety of mediums. After too many years without a creative outlet\, Jenny took ceramics courses at Santa Rosa Junior College. As soon as she got her hands on the clay again\, simple shapes started to develop personalities of their own\, and families of ceramic monsters were born. Jenny is the Saturday morning facilitator for the Sebastopol Center for the Arts Ceramics Studio.
