SUMMARY:Jewish Film Festival: The Last Twins
DESCRIPTION:The Last Twins is the never-before-told story of an unsung hero of the Holocaust\, Erno “Zvi” Spiegel\, who risked everything to save dozens of young twins from almost certain death at Auschwitz. Under the shadow of Dr. Josef Mengele’s horrific experiments\, Spiegel used his courage\, compassion\, and ingenuity to shield the most vulnerable—the sets of twins targeted for brutal medical experimentation. Mengele put Spiegel in charge of the young boys\, but Spiegel used his position to protect and comfort the children\, all of whom had been torn from their families and subjected to inhumane tests under the constant threat of extermination. \nThrough first-hand testimony and exclusive archival material\, The Last Twins brings to life the voices of those who survived because of Spiegel’s defiance. It is a testament to resilience\, sacrifice\, and the power of one person to make a difference\, even in humanity’s darkest hour. \nThe documentary is directed and produced by Emmy Award-winning directors Perri Peltz and Matthew O’Neill and is narrated by Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Chuck Bridewell Memorial Golf Tournament
DESCRIPTION:Cancer Aid Brigade is excited to host the 3rd annual Chuck Bridewell Memorial Golf tournament.  2025 was a success as we were able to donate $7\,500 to Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society).   Other donations were made to Camp Okizu which offers respite to families affected by childhood cancers and The Magic Yarn Project\, volunteers who knit beanies\, hats and character wigs for children all over the world.   Our tournament player numbers grew  as well as our sponors.  We are so grateful for all of the support we received.  \nChuck was a wonderful father\, adoring grandfather\, loving husband and generous friend.  We lost him to Central Nervous System Lymphoma in August of 2013.  By participating in our tournament\, you will not only keep his spirit alive\, but also demonstrate your commitment to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.  \nThe Valley of the Moon Club in Santa Rosa has been our host course for the past 2 years and we look forward to returning in October.  The course is set in Sonoma Wine Country with views of the Mayacamas Mountains.  Our tournament is for golfers of all levels – novice to experienced.  Santa Rosa and the surrounding area is the perfect weekend getaway offering wine tasting & breweries\, outdoor activities and fun museums.

SUMMARY:Slow Meditative Birding Journey
DESCRIPTION:Do you enjoy a slow walk in a valley\, breezes\, wildflowers\, the sounds of songbirds\, the taste of a Douglas Fir needle or a California Bay leaf\, the aroma of Tarweed\, or watching wild turkeys and California Quail hunt for seeds and insects in the grass? Join Certified California Naturalists and Sugarloaf docents for this series of meandering explorations. Each month (weather permitting) we will explore one or two of our three accessible trails– the Creekside Trail\, the Nature Trail\, and the Meadow trail. Suitable for all levels and a range of mobility\, these Sunday afternoon adventures will accommodate people using walkers or wheelchairs\, young children\, parents with babies in strollers\, as well as those who just enjoy slow walks in nature that stimulate the five senses. \nOur October outing will focus on meditative birding. We will start off by sitting quietly for 10 minutes with Merlin app recording in 3 different locations\, followed by about 10 minutes of discussion of the birds we heard\, using Cornell to confirm their calls and songs before moving onto the next sitting spot. We will also saunter (while looking for birds) between the locations for a total distance of ~1.3 miles on an accessible trail. Birding by ear lends itself to meditation because it works best when you sit silently and listening closely (i.e.\, if Merlin *hears* something you did not\, it reminds you that your mind has wandered). \nTickets are $5 for adults and free for children under 18 years of age. All minors must be accompanied by parent or legal guardian. Tickets day-of\, on site will be $10 and might not be available. Meet at the White Barn parking lot.
