A bit of good news this morning… PG&E did not get the 26% rate increase it had requested, the bad news, the California Public Utilities Commission did approve a 13% rate hike that goes into effect on January 1st. The average bill will go up by over $32 per month. PG&E cites rising costs and lawsuits from more than 30 wildfires that forced the company into bankruptcy in 2019 as just part of the reason for the increase. Their aggressive program to bury thousands of mile of power lines and increasing overall safety also adds to the cost.
