HEADLINE: Local Chorus Places 8th in International Competition

Diablo Vista Chorus of Walnut Creek placed 8th at the Sweet Adelines International Chorus Competition in Louisville, Kentucky this past Saturday, November 4, 2023.

This year’s competition included the top 33 qualifying choruses from all over the globe including from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. There are currently over 500 member choruses worldwide. This was Diablo Vista’s first time qualifying for the international event.

The 76-member chorus competed in the Semi-finalist round on Thursday with two songs; “I’ve Got Rhythm” and “With You.” Their performance placed them in the top ten, and qualified them to advance to the competition finals, where they performed their show package of songs from the movie “Mary Poppins”.

Sweet Adelines International (SAI) is an organization dedicated to elevating women singers worldwide through education, performance, and competition in barbershop harmony and a cappella music.

As a charter member of SAI, Diablo Vista Chorus pursues continuous musical growth, performs dynamic 4-part a cappella music, and strives to preserve the artistry of the barbershop harmony style. The chorus is under the direction of Caitlin Castelino, a Sweet Adelines “Queen of Harmony” and baritone for the Sweet Adelines International Champion quartet, LoveNotes.

Diablo Vista Chorus is open to new members, regardless of past singing experience, who wish to join in the fun and comradery of a group of dynamic women who love singing and making music with other likeminded women. The chorus rehearses every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 9:30 pm at Grace Presbyterian Church, 2100 Tice Valley Rd., in Walnut Creek. More information about DVC can be found at www.diablovistachorus.com.
