Permit Sonoma Revising Plans For Sonoma Developmental Center

Permit Sonoma is revising the Environmental Impact Report and Specific Plan for the Sonoma Developmental Center due to a 2024 court order.

The focus is a proposal from Eldridge Renewal, LLC, including 990 homes—some affordable—400,000 square feet of commercial space, a 130-room hotel, and new parks. This redevelops the 160-acre core campus, connecting to 750 acres of state park land.

The SDC, closed in 2018, saw its previous plan set aside by the court. Now, Permit Sonoma is working to get this vital project back on track.

In other Permit Sonoma news, they’re wrapping up the “Community Vision” phase of the General Plan Sonoma update. After engaging nearly 4,000 residents and collecting thousands of comments, a Draft Vision Statement and Guiding Principles for future land use and development are ready.

These will be presented to the Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on August 12th. This vital plan will guide priorities like housing, transportation, and climate resilience for unincorporated areas.
