Petaluma Historic Advocates May Drop Lawsuit Over Controversial Luxury Hotel Project

A lawsuit filed by a group of residents to block the city’s new downtown zoning rules, which would allow for a controversial luxury hotel project, may be dropped.

The Press Democrat reports the lawsuit, filed by Petaluma Historic Advocates, claims the city’s “downtown overlay” zoning change violated state laws. The group is now in talks with the city to dismiss the case after the City Council voted to address some of the issues raised in the lawsuit. The zoning change was specifically created to enable a six-story hotel project on the corner of B Street and Petaluma Boulevard.

Petaluma Historic Advocates has been fighting the hotel for over a year and also gathered enough signatures to force a city-wide vote on the issue.
