Petaluma Historic Advocates Lawsuit Could Be Dropped

A lawsuit against the city of Petaluma could soon be dropped.

The lawsuit was filed in mid-July by a coalition of residents in an attempt to stop the city’s downtown overlay. The overlay is a major zoning change that would allow for the construction of a proposed luxury hotel.

The lawyer representing the residents is now in talks with Petaluma officials to drop the case. This comes after the Petaluma City Council recently took steps to address issues involving the downtown overlay.

And, earlier this year, a citizens group called Petaluma Historic Advocates successfully led a signature-gathering campaign to put the overlay up for a citywide vote.
