In a local victory for the transgender community, the Windsor Town Council is set to become the first in Sonoma County to officially recognize August as Transgender History Month.
According to the Press Democrat, the proclamation is the result of a powerful letter-writing campaign by two local activists, Ada Atchison and Andrea Nofi. Atchison, who began to transition last year, said she was frustrated by the cancellation of a transgender support program at her workplace. She and Nofi channeled that frustration into this successful campaign, which aims to celebrate the history and contributions of transgender people.
Windsor Mayor Rosa Reynoza said it’s important to tell the LGBTQ community, “I see you, I hear you.” The proclamation will be presented to Atchison and Nofi at the next Town Council meeting.
