Sonoma County Sheriff Deputy Kills Dog In Windsor While Investigating Possible Trespassing

A Windsor police officer shot and killed a dog on Monday while investigating a trespassing report.

The Press Democrat reports the incident happened just after 2 p.m. on American Way near Conde Lane. The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, which provides policing for Windsor, says an officer was investigating a report of a trespasser when a dog “aggressively approached and attacked” him, causing minor injuries. The officer then fired his weapon, fatally wounding the animal.

Two Santa Rosa residents were arrested in connection with the incident: 53-year-old Miel Singletary Schultz on suspicion of trespassing and drug possession, and 49-year-old Eric Chad McCarty on suspicion of trespassing and a probation violation.

They are both scheduled to appear in Sonoma County Superior Court today.
