New additions have arrived at the Sonoma Community Center. Two life-size elephant sculptures, titled “Moringa and Marigold,” are now on permanent display in the center’s gardens.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports the sculptures were crafted in India by The Real Elephant Collective, a group of 200 Indigenous artisans. A gift from the Sonoma-based KHR McNeely Family Foundation, the project is part of a larger initiative to promote harmony between humans and animals and support Indigenous communities.
The two sculptures, a matriarch and an adolescent elephant, were celebrated with a public reception on Thursday at the Community Center.
