St. Helena Residents Challenging Townhome Development

A proposed 78-unit townhome development on a historic Spring Street vineyard is facing strong opposition from neighbors.

According to the Press Democrat, the project meets St. Helena’s state-required housing goals, but residents worry about traffic, safety, and losing a historic site. On September 23rd, the City Council agreed to explore “creative alternatives,” including potentially purchasing the property. City officials warned that state law limits their options.

The developer’s plan includes 15 affordable units, and because the site is zoned for high density, city staff may have to approve the project regardless of neighbor complaints.
