The Rincon Valley Union School District in Santa Rosa is facing an $8.5 million budget deficit, requiring major spending cuts.
Per the Press Democrat, the shortfall is due to declining enrollment, rising costs, and the loss of pandemic funding. The district must cut $8.5 million over two years after draining its financial reserves. With 85% of the budget tied to staffing, more layoffs are expected to follow cuts made last spring.
The district board will review final cut proposals before mid-March.
