Fire officials have declared the city’s wildfire season over after weeks of cooler weather and recent rainfall.
The announcement suspends enforcement of the weed abatement ordinance and shifts the department to a winter response model, requiring fewer firefighters for vegetation fires, Division Chief and Fire Marshal Paul Lowenthal said. Pile burning permits are expected to be issued starting in November.
Property owners in wildland-urban interface areas, vacant lots, and large parcels are no longer required to keep grasses and weeds under four inches, though year-round inspections will continue.
Officials cited a cooler summer and fall storms that brought roughly an inch of rain, returning local fuel levels to early-spring conditions, which may decline again after the weekend.
