St. Helena City Council Cancels Sale Of Former City Hall Property

The St. Helena City Council has halted plans to sell the former City Hall property on Main Street, ending negotiations with a potential hotel developer.

According to the Press Democrat, the council announced it will reconsider a “broader range of possible uses” for that downtown site, as well as the city property on Adams Street that includes the public library. In the same closed meeting, the council reviewed City Manager Anil Comelo, directing the city attorney to prepare a report proposing a change to his pay structure.

This comes after receiving over 60 public comments urging the council to fire Comelo, citing concerns over his transparency and fiscal leadership.
