Sonoma County has appointed Dr. Michael Stacey as its interim health officer, effective November 1st.
Dr. Stacey, a specialist in family medicine and public health, replaces Dr. Karen Smith and will serve until October 31, 2026, or until a permanent officer is hired.
He previously served as Chief Medical Officer at LifeLong Medical Care in Berkeley and held key public health roles in Solano County, bringing extensive experience in advancing health equity and serving underserved populations.
The Health Officer is the county’s chief medical and top health policy official, responsible for clinical emergency response, food safety, and overseeing critical health records.
