Sonoma State University dedicated two powerful peace memorials on campus yesterday: a Rotary Peace Pole and two Hiroshima Peace Trees.
The Press Democrat reports the trees were grown from seeds that survived the 1945 atomic bombing. The Peace Pole displays the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in eight languages. The project, funded by the Rotary Club and Veterans for Peace, aims to remind the community of the human cost of war.
Speakers urged attendees to treat the new symbols as a “call to action” to promote peace in their daily lives.
