Petaluma Men Face Felony Charges for Destroying $200,000 Mammoth Fossil

Two Petaluma men are facing up to four years in prison after allegedly shattering a woolly mammoth tusk at a Missouri museum.

The Press Democrat reports authorities say 48-year-old Todd Azevedo hoisted 46-year-old Brett Howard onto his shoulders to hang from the fossil, causing the 200-pound tusk to break into several pieces. The specimen, housed at the Ancient Ozarks Natural History Museum, is valued at approximately 200,000 dollars.

Both men were arrested on felony property damage charges and are currently barred from contacting each other or entering any Bass Pro Properties nationwide while they await trial.
