FEMA is updating its flood zone maps for Santa Rosa.
About 25-hundred properties in Santa Rosa are facing a higher risk of flooding. The maps are used to determine flood risks and insurance requirements for residential, commercial and undeveloped properties. Local jurisdictions are required to adopt them to take part in the National Flood Insurance Program.
FEMA recently released the preliminary flood zone maps. That started a public process in which property owners can now appeal the designation.
