Cloverdale Unified School District Board Of Trustees Approves Minor Change To Safe Haven Policy

The Cloverdale Unified School District Board of Trustees is approving only a minor change to its safe haven policy.

The original policy, adopted in February of 2017, designates all Cloverdale Unified facilities and campuses as safe havens. That means everyone is welcome on school district sites, regardless of their immigration status. Amid fears about ICE raids, members of Las Madres Unidas of Cloverdale attended Wednesday’s meeting, urging the board to pass an updated policy similar that of Santa Rosa City Schools. It would have made district properties a safe haven also for the “families and community” of the Cloverdale Unified School District.

The board only amended the policy to include parent notification. About 65 percent of the district is Latino.
