A plan to close Prestwood Elementary School is now in doubt.
After hearing from dozens of community members, most members of the Sonoma Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees say they no longer support the proposal. According to the Sonoma Index-Tribune, parents and teachers at Thursday’s meeting highlighted the school’s high academic performance and its unique campus. They also pointed to new financial data suggesting the district is in a better position than previously thought.
While the school board will continue to discuss consolidation, a vote on Prestwood’s closure is no longer imminent.
