Clover Flat Land Fill will pay millions to settle an environmental lawsuit over a 2019 spill in Napa.
In March 2019, 40-thousand gallons of leachate entered streams feeding the Napa River. Leachate is a liquid created when water runs through the waste in a landfill. Investigators also found a road built through a stream and unauthorized removal of trees and vegetation.
Napa County District Attorney Allison Haley announced the settlement, which includes about four-million-dollars to restore over four-acres of habitat, additional funds for local creek restoration projects, and 100-thousand-dollars in civil penalties.
