A kayaker died Friday morning in Bodega Bay after being found unresponsive in the water near the head of the bay channel.
Per the Press Democrat, a nearby mariner spotted the overturned kayak, which was equipped with crabbing gear, and a second kayaker attempted a rescue before the Coast Guard and the Sheriff’s helicopter arrived.
While the victim was wearing a life jacket, it remains unclear if he suffered a medical emergency or a boating accident; the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating.
