Real Estate MLS Restored After Cyberattack

To the relief of real-estate agents everywhere, the MLS is no longer “pending.”

The multiple-listing services (MLS) used by thousands of agents and real-estate agencies throughout the North Bay was victim since Aug. 8 of a ransomware attack—freezing the listings and rendering agents unable to update sales, create new listings or remove properties from the digital marketplace.

The Rapattoni Corporation was reportedly the victim of the attack—the Southern California-based company operates the MLS software and data used by local agents via the Bay Area Real Estate Information Service (BAREIS), a Santa Rosa-based company used by brokerages in Sonoma, Marin, Napa and other north Bay Area counties.

Agents were jumping for joy Aug. 23 when the MLS became active again.

According to the San Francisco Association of Realtors, the MLS was up and running as of 9 a.m. on Aug. 23.
