Permit Sonoma is updating its rules regarding permit time limits.
To align with new California state law, your issued permits will now expire if work doesn’t begin within 12 months, or if there’s a 12-month lapse in progress. This is a big change from the previous three-year timeframe.
Nathan Quarles, Sonoma County’s chief building official, explained that state law now mandates this 12-month timeframe statewide.
So, if you’re a permit holder, plan your projects accordingly to avoid your permit expiring. These updates will be reflected in Permit Sonoma’s online system, and staff are available to answer your questions.
