There are numerous new laws that take effect in California today.
Two bills take aim at hidden fees. Under both, businesses would be requires to advertise prices for goods and services to include all other mandatory charges, aside from government-imposed taxes or fees. All firearms and amunition will be subject to an 11% state tax. Under another new law, most security deposits for rental houses would be capped at the equivalent of one month’s rent. And bars, nightclubs and other establishments that serve alcoholic beverages will be required to have drug-testing kits available for sale
