It appears Safeway grocery store employees in Northern California will not be going on strike.
On Sunday, United Food and Commercial Workers reached a tentative contract agreement with Safeway’s parent company, Albertsons Companies. The union says the agreement meets its demands for wage increases, stronger job protection, and improved retirement and health care plans. It affects about 25-thousand grocery workers from the Grapevine to the Oregon border.
The planned strike was initially supposed to start on Saturday morning but was delayed as negotiations continued. Negotiations lasted five months in total.
