According to a report from the Press Democrat, California has just passed a bill that adds another $18 billion to the state’s wildfire fund, which helps pay victims of fires caused by utilities.
However, the new law is being criticized by Northern California fire survivors, many of whom have not been fully compensated for losses from the 2017 and 2018 fires. They argue the state is bypassing them to focus on future fires.
The fund’s new money will be split between ratepayers and utility shareholders.
