Annual Made In Santa Rosa Education Foundation Luncheon Raises $86,000

The Made in Santa Rosa Education Foundation recently raised a substantial $86,000 at its fourth annual fall luncheon.

The Press Democrat reports the funds are earmarked for two key literacy initiatives in partnership with the Santa Rosa City Schools District for the 2025-2026 school year. According to Executive Director Lisa Alexander, the money will support the ELITE (Early Literacy Enrichment) Program, an after-school initiative focused on strengthening reading skills for multilingual and BIPOC students. It will also bolster the Book Vending Machine Program, which allows students to earn tokens for selecting and keeping their own books—a research-backed way to boost reading engagement and success.

The foundation noted that providing books that reflect students’ cultural identities is crucial for deeper comprehension and confidence. The event, which drew 125 attendees, also honored emeritus board member Dr. Diann Kitamura, a co-founder of the foundation and co-developer of the ELITE program.
