Sonoma residents may notice smoke today as the Sonoma Ecology Center conducts a controlled pile burn at the Montini Open Space Preserve.
The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports the burn is a key part of reducing wildfire risk and restoring the local ecosystem. The effort is funded by the California State Coastal Conservancy and coordinated with the City of Sonoma and local fire agencies.
The park is expected to remain open, but visitors should watch for temporary trail closures for safety and follow all posted signs. Smoke may be visible from the hills north of the Sonoma Plaza.
