Santa Rosa City Schools faces a multimillion-dollar deficit and the risk of state takeover.
A new financial report projects the district’s cash balance will fall two-point-eight million dollars short of what’s needed to cover payroll by June 2026. Last year’s school closures saved only seven million dollars, falling five million short of the target.
District leaders say the projected deficit is expected to reach over 16 million dollars by the start of the 2026-27 fiscal year.
