Amidst financial troubles for many Sonoma County schools, the Healdsburg Unified School District has been highlighted by State Superintendent Tony Thurmond as a statewide success story.
The Press Democrat reports Healdsburg was the only Northern California district recognized for its strong showing on the California School Dashboard. The district achieved significant academic gains, including a 7.2% increase in its graduation rate and a 17% rise in college and career readiness.
Crucially, Healdsburg also bucks regional financial and demographic trends, seeing a recent enrollment increase and maintaining stability by relying on local property taxes rather than enrollment-based state funding.
