New Report Shows Pressure On Support Systems For Sonoma Valley’s Aging Population

A new report from the Sonoma Valley Catalyst Fund warns that the region’s rapidly aging population is placing mounting pressure on local health care, housing, transportation, and social support systems.

According to a report from the Press Democrat, the assessment projects that by the year 2030, one in three Sonoma Valley residents will be a senior citizen. The fastest-growing segment is the 75 and older group, expected to increase by 44% over the next decade.

The study also highlights that many seniors face high rates of disability, social isolation, and economic insecurity. Nearly 3,200 seniors live alone, and about 1,700 struggle financially, living below 200% of the federal poverty level.

The Sonoma Valley Catalyst Fund will host a free online webinar on December 3rd from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. to discuss the report’s findings, the challenges ahead, and recommendations for accommodating the needs of this growing demographic.
