SVUSD Board To Discuss Fate Of Charter School

The Sonoma Valley Unified School District faces a critical turning point this week as the Board of Trustees prepares to vote on a new charter school and narrow down their search for a new superintendent.

This Thursday evening, trustees will weigh the fate of MacArthur Park Charter School. The school was proposed by parents following the controversial decision to close Prestwood Elementary due to declining enrollment and budget gaps.

However, district staff have released a report recommending the board deny the petition, citing state education standards.

The board will also move behind closed doors to finalize interview questions for six candidates vying to be the district’s next superintendent. Final interviews are set for this weekend, with a permanent leader expected to be approved by February.

The public meeting kicks off at 6 p.m. at Sonoma City Chambers and will be available via Zoom.
