Healdsburg Organizers Propose Nonprofit Trust to Tackle “Missing Middle” Housing

With home prices in Healdsburg now averaging over one million dollars, local organizers are turning to a nonprofit model to keep middle-income residents in the city.

Community members presented a proposal for the Healdsburg Housing Trust to the City Council on Monday. The goal is to raise local donations to fund “missing middle” housing—specifically targeting residents earning between 80% and 120% of the area’s median income.

Organizers say the nonprofit would acquire property and partner with developers to build homes for those who make too much for traditional low-income subsidies but are priced out of the current market. While the City Council signaled support for the concept, they have not yet committed any municipal funding to the project.
