North Bay Legend Hangs Up The Whistle

A North Bay soccer powerhouse is entering a new era. Montgomery High’s Pat McDonald is stepping down after 33 years with the program—the last 25 as head coach.

The Press Democrat reports alongside longtime assistant Ross Hause, McDonald leaves behind a staggering legacy: 16 league titles, six section titles, and two seasons ranked No. 1 in the nation.

But for McDonald, the nearly 400 wins take a backseat to the lives he’s shaped. He says he wanted to leave while he still “missed it,” and though he’s retiring from the sideline, he’ll remain a fixture in the stands.
