The Sonoma City Council is set to consider allowing a second cannabis dispensary in the city.
The discussion comes after residents and a local advocacy group argued that having only one dispensary creates a monopoly, leading to high prices and a lack of options. The Sonoma Index-Tribune reports while the city’s ordinance allows for two dispensaries, a request to open the application process for a second permit was delayed last year. Proponents of a second dispensary say it would boost the local economy and provide additional tax revenue.
The council will revisit the issue at its meeting on Wednesday, September 17.
