Fear remains high in Sonoma County’s immigrant community following the recent federal agent deployment scare in the Bay Area.
Immigrant advocates gathered over the weekend to criticize local officials for their lack of urgency and failure to pass a sanctuary ordinance. The Press Democrat reports the Sonoma County Sanctuary Coalition is demanding that the county ban all cooperation with ICE.
Advocates noted that calls to a local immigrant hotline spiked 730% after the deployment news.
The Coalition is planning a protest this Thursday to pressure county leaders to enact stronger protections.
