Sonoma County is seeking state legislation to help grant its retired government workers their first cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, since 2008.
Per the Press Democrat, retirees argue that inflation has significantly hurt their purchasing power over the last decade. The Board of Supervisors supports a COLA but is looking for new state rules to allow for flexible, targeted increases to those most in need, instead of a costly raise for all retirees.
The issue has been placed on the county’s 2026 legislative agenda as officials search for a way to fund the adjustment.
